André Domine, Wein Wirtschaft’s Languedoc expert, does a whirlwind tour of Limoux vineyards, passing by a number of important big estates, small family vineyards and the new up-and-coming young growers of the appellation, and finds that “the Limoux region presents surprising freshness and elegance in both sparkling and still wines – and all at great prices”
As for Rives-Blanques, the Panman family “loves their Mauzac, as demonstrated by their Blanquette Brut Natur, and even more so, the Occitania 2019, a single varietal of uncloned original vines of Mauzac full of citrus fruit, a creamy texture, fine acidity and notes of fennel. They also make monocépages of all the Limoux possibilities, including the Chenin blanc, Dédicace 2019.”
