‘The Languedoc is France’s top vineyard – in terms of quantity,” says the German wine magazine, Falstaff in its July-August 2019 issue. “Even 20 years ago, the great potential of its varying terroirs had hardly been explored.”
“But today, committed winegrowers are changing the face of the region,” they added.
Nineteen white Languedoc wines were awarded 90 – 95 points, of which seven were from Limoux, including the two wines submitted for this special Languedoc tasting by Rives-Blanques.
“Languedoc wines couldn’t be more full of character”, they said. “And there’s no shortage of quality here either.”
Le Limoux tasting notes:
Mineral with notes of yeast, tangerine, pineapple; fruity with only a slight hint of wood. Very smooth, typical southern sweetness of Chardonnay balanced by noticeable acidity. Medium-weight, good length, finishing on a note of lime-minerality.
Occitania tasting notes:
100 percent Mauzac, the local grape variety. Aromas of pineapple and tangerine, peach and plum. Some coconut. Powerful alcohol on the palate, with notes of wood; good density, full and almost fiery, with well-integrated acidity and spicy notes, a good wine to accompany food.
